Using a Web-Based Test Management Tool

article
|
Summary
Early in the world of the Web, Lockheed Martin Astronautics began using web technology to facilitate test procedure execution. The tool supports our integrated team of systems, hardware, software test, and quality assurance engineers.

At Lockheed Martin Astronautics Independent Verification and Validation (IV& V) software test area, we have been successfully using web technology to facilitate test procedure execution. We have created a Web-based system that generates HTML test procedures which directly supports test creation, execution, analysis, and documentation of results. This system constitutes a successfully implemented "groupware" test tool, which has been in production use for over two years.

The tool supports our integrated team of systems, hardware, software test, and quality assurance engineers. Our Web-based tool and associated processes have contributed to a 20-to-50 percent cost savings, while at the same time improving consistency, documentation, review of results, and product control.

About The Author
Jon Hagar is an old retired and disrespected (because he works on things like standards and teaching) software test guy of 40 years who is really a ski bum, heavy equipment operator, but enjoys making other people think about software testing. These are all cool jobs if you can get them, but they don’t pay much.
