Defect Depletion and Cost Analysis (template)

You can use this spreadsheet to demonstrate the value of early defect removal. It includes defect depletion curves or phase containment effectiveness calculations.

You input the project size, defect injection rates per unit of size for development phases, and defect removal rates via reviews or inspections, and test. It also allows for defect introduction via bad fixes in test (recidivism rate) and provides a good picture of project quality versus goals.
