ARTICLE: Scalability and Performance Testing of Server Software Author(s): Srinivasan Desikan Summary: To derive a good testing strategy out of scalability and performance testing, there needs to be testable and measurable requirements. Often they are ambiguous and there is a need to go with certain assumptions to perform testing. This paper explains those certain assumptions and explains the procedure for- Choosing the right product configuration
- Choosing the right resources
- Utilizing the benchmarking and scalability results

ARTICLE: Building an Effective Test Organization Author(s): Srinivasan Desikan Summary: The ultimate goal of every organization is to prevent
the defects in the product and eradicate them before they
take form. This is achieved by implementing good processes,
rather than finding and fixing them. The testing should be
reduced dramatically to "qualify a product," with less focus on finding defects and more focus on "defect prevention." This article was published in S|E|A| Software journal June 2003 and was also presented at the ASIASTAR-2002 testing conference. Date Posted: Jul 17, 2003 |
ARTICLE: A Test Methodology for Effective Regression Testing Author(s): Srinivasan Desikan Summary: This article explains regression testing methodology and describes the experience gained by the author in doing regression testing at several companies. Date Posted: Jan 15, 2003 |
ARTICLE: Validating Mission Critical Server Software for Reliability Author(s): Umesh M.S./Srinivasan Desikan Summary: This paper talks about testing for reliability of server software, and highlights the challenges in planning, automation, execution, collection, and interpretation of the data for determining reliability as well as some practical challenges/difficulties faced. It also talks about the relationship of reliability testing to other areas of testing such as performance and functionality. Date Posted: Feb 15, 2002 |
ARTICLE: Challenges in a Product Testing Environment Author(s): Chitra A Gurjar/J Veeraraaghavan Summary: This paper presents some experiences of Novell Bangalore in dealing with test engineering challenges as part of their product engineering delivery responsibilities for key Novell products. ARTICLE: Simulation Model for Quality Improvements Author(s): Bharath Srinivasan Summary: Author Bharath Srinivasan believes that quality improvement is not only based on absolute number of defects, which is helpful for the early phases of a project, but also on the measurement of the Mean Time To Failure [MTTF]. In this article, he explains how this model helps his team improve early detection, and predict and reduce the Residual Defect Density (RDD). Date Posted: Feb 24, 2006 |
CONFERENCE MATERIALS: Growing Pains: Why Scaling Scrum and XP Hurts - and What You Can Do Author(s): Ed Kraay, SolutionsIQ Summary: Do you have a large scale program with multiple agile teams? If so, you may have experienced some of the growing pains we encountered when we scaled Scrum and XP—conflicting priorities across teams, handling dependencies across multiple backlogs, planning a release date for teams with changing velocities and backlogs, inconsistent technical practices, and ineffective cross-team communication. Ed Kraay presents his organization's experience working on a large, complex Scrum program with multiple, interrelated Scrum teams. Learn the secrets of what to avoid and ways to minimize the pain so that your teams can reduce defects, improve delivery, and have more fun. Ed’s practical tips include synchronizing sprints across teams, using multi-team release planning, building a cross-team roadmap, embedding architects and coaches, and facilitating vertical transparency using a meta-scrum framework. Bring your current challenges scaling Scrum or XP practices, and leave with a fresh perspective to move forward. Conference: Agile Development Practices
